Dolphin
Days is an annual weekend festival of events inspired by the
playful dolphins at the Hilton Waikoloa Village® Dolphin Quest
Learning Lagoon and designed to benefit two local charity organizations
through contributions of time and money. This star-studded
benefit festival champions the causes of Hawaii Shriners Hospitals
for Children and
the Pacific Marine Life Foundation, two charities that
help us to realize the importance of celebrating life.
All Dolphin Days events are non-profit and all net proceeds
go to benefit the two charities. Although the official Dolphin
Days festival lasts just a few days in June, other charitable
events are held throughout the year to raise funds, like the
Sun, Splash and Dash Race Series with races in May and August.
Over the past thirteen years, Dolphin Days has raised and donated
over $500,000.
Entering it's fourteenth year in 2008, Hilton
Waikoloa Village is proud to present and be the main
sponsor of Dolphin Days.
More About The Charities
Shriners Hospital for Children – Honolulu provides orthopaedic and rehabilitative care to children throughout the State of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim at no charge to the patient or family. Since Shriners Hospitals for Children in Honolulu opened its doors to the community 85 years ago, more than 25,000 children have received quality medical care in a family-centered environment.
The Honolulu hospital is a part of a one-of-a-kind international health care system consisting of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Shriners Hospitals for Children is supported by an endowment fund established by the Shriners fraternal organization and by financial gifts from individuals.
Dolphin Days is currently raising funds to contribute to Shriners Hospitals for Children’s first-ever Capital Campaign, which has the vision of building a new state-of-the-art hospital on Oahu that will provide Hawaii’s children with the best orthopaedic care and expanded services for years to come. The estimated cost of the new hospital is $73 million, of which Shriners Hospital is asking the residents of Hawaii to help raise $14 million. Through the generous support from our community, the campaign has raised $8 million in pledges and gifts. The hospital was first built in 1967 and underwent its last major renovation in 1992; significant upgrades are necessary to enhance patient safety, accessibility, and historic integrity. Upon completion in June 2010, the hospital will encompass three two-story buildings totaling 149,000 square feet (approximately 40% larger than the existing facility). The theme of the Capital Campaign is “Every Step is a Victory.”

Pacific
Marine Life Foundation is a non-profit organization
created in 1984 over the concern for the increasing pressures
on wild dolphins and whales and their fragile marine ecosystems.
The Foundations mission is to unite the expertise
and energies of persons in science, business, education
and environmental professions to work for viable, long-term
solutions to these pressures. Since it's inception, PMLF
has supported more than 20 outstanding research, education,
and conservation projects in the Pacific.
